About Dr Gabriele Cammarata

Dr Gabriele Cammarata is an experienced Clinical and Health Psychologist, Chartered Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with more than 15 years’ experience across the NHS, private practice, universities and international humanitarian settings.

He specialises in Schema Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), helping people understand and change deep-rooted emotional patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, OCD, trauma responses, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties or repeated unhelpful behaviours.

Schema Therapy can be particularly helpful when difficulties feel long-standing, keep returning or appear connected to unmet emotional needs and earlier life experiences. Gabriele works collaboratively with clients to identify recurring schemas and coping patterns, understand where they developed and build healthier ways of responding.

Alongside Schema Therapy and CBT, Gabriele draws on psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy and other evidence-based approaches. His broad training allows him to tailor therapy to the needs, background and goals of each individual.

Gabriele has worked within NHS primary and secondary care services and British universities. He also has specialist expertise in health psychology and ethno-cultural and cross-cultural psychology, which he teaches at postgraduate level at the University of Padua in Italy.

He provides therapy in both English and Italian and has extensive experience supporting people from different cultural backgrounds. His approach is warm, compassionate, thoughtful and non-judgemental, while also helping clients challenge patterns that may be keeping them stuck.

How Schema Therapy Can Help

Schema Therapy explores deeply held beliefs and emotional patterns that often begin in childhood or develop through significant life experiences. These patterns can influence how you see yourself, relate to other people and respond to difficult situations.

Gabriele may use Schema Therapy to help with:

  • Repeated relationship difficulties

  • Fears of rejection or abandonment

  • Persistent low self-esteem

  • Strong self-criticism or perfectionism

  • Difficulties regulating emotions

  • Unhelpful coping behaviours

  • Long-standing anxiety or depression

  • Childhood trauma and unmet emotional needs

  • Personality-related difficulties

Helping Young People Break the Cycle of Anxiety, Tics and Emotional Distress

We first spoke to Gabriele in February this year after having concerns that our 9 year old daughter's tics had become debilitating for her. They exacerbated her anxiety, made her angry and this in turn made the tics worse. We needed to break the cycle.

We found him to be professional, thorough, approachable, engaging and empathetic.

Within a few minutes of the first session speaking with her she was calmer and he identified several ways she could take control of the situation rather than it controlling her.

She felt comfortable engaging with him online and started to reap the benefits of the sessions pretty much immediately.

Over the next few weeks we saw a dramatic fall in the number, severity and frequency of the tics and angry outbursts.

Moreover she now had an understanding, as did we, of ways she could help herself in challenging situations to regain control.

I'm very glad you recommended him to us!” Marion (Mum of a 9 year old who had anxiety and debilitating tics).

He managed to resolve my main OCD theme — which was life-changing.

“I would recommend him (Gabriele) for the way he make you feel and I need to recognise that he managed to sort out my main OCD theme which is really powerful. Thank you Gabriele” Lucian
