Claire Phillips

BACP Registered Counsellor

I have been counselling professionally for over 10 years and registered with the BACP. I am a Person-Centred counsellor and I like to believe that I provide a space where you are able to feel safe and able to explore your thoughts and feelings, however difficult this might be at times. Embracing these complexities in ourselves and others can often bring about positive changes and new perspectives on life and relationships. This can enable you to become more open to experiencing the various pains and fears in a more intense way and become instrumental on your journey to better mental health and ongoing self discovery.

On my own journey I have travelled, worked and lived in South East Asia for over 10 years and has lived and worked in South East London for over 20 years. I am able to deliver a way of working that is culturally sensitive. In the last 10 years I have worked in various places, consisting of NHS surgeries, prisons, drop in centres, dealing with varying complex cases. I have also worked with children (majority in care home setting) and young adults and quite often these cases were presenting with suicidal ideation, self harm and drug and alcohol issues.

I consider myself to have a very good understanding of the effects of trauma encompassing the psychological, cognitive, behavioural and physical signs and symptoms and also the effects of untreated trauma. For example, substance/alcohol abuse, depression, dissociation, sexual dysfunction, social withdrawal to name a few.

I believe I can facilitate your healing process and help you to discover that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you and feel privileged with this opportunity to do so.
