Carina Harvey
BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist and EMDR Therapist
Pronouns: She/Her
I am a personable, empathetic and compassionate therapist. My aim is to build a trusting working relationship with you and work as a team to understand and cope better with the problems you are facing, learning different coping skills and strategies to help you to work towards your goals for therapy. Work on ourselves is ongoing, so my goal for you is to help you to feel confident in using what you have learnt from therapy about yourself and how to cope with difficulties so that you can maintain the helpful changes and progress made, work towards further goals and cope with future situations.
I have over 10 years experience working in an NHS psychological therapy service, charity settings and more recently privately with people struggling with common mental health difficulties such as anxiety problems, depression, psychological trauma and low self-esteem.
I have a special interest in working with people with trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and have completed my Post graduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I am fully trained and qualified in Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR). I use these approaches when working with clients, alongside techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) to enhance my work and individualise treatment. I am fully accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
I offer individual therapy online for people age 18 years and upwards. I provide a free 15 minute meeting, either virtually or by telephone, to discuss what you would like help with and how I can support you, to help you to decide on whether my approach and style is the right one for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

What is Online CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based psychological approach proven effective for a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and trauma. Delivered online or face-to-face, online CBT allows you to access structured, professional therapy from the comfort of your own home, making it flexible and accessible for people with busy schedules or mobility limitations.
How CBT Works
CBT involves collaboration between you and your therapist to identify and understand problems in terms of the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. The cognitive component focuses on how we interpret events, symptoms, or situations, and the beliefs we hold about ourselves, others, and the world. Online CBT helps you become aware of automatic thoughts, recognise unhelpful thinking patterns, and develop more balanced perspectives.
The behavioural component examines how we respond when distressed. Avoidance, reduced activity, or unhelpful coping strategies can maintain or worsen difficulties. Online CBT guides you to gradually test assumptions, face feared situations, and develop new behavioural skills to reduce anxiety and improve coping.
Key Benefits of Online CBT
Directly targets distressing symptoms and negative thought patterns.
Promotes practical, problem-focused skills to tackle everyday challenges.
Works collaboratively towards your individual therapy goals.
Offers structured homework between sessions to reinforce progress.
Flexible access to therapy from anywhere, supporting a wide range of people regardless of ability, culture, gender, or sexual orientation.
Online CBT is goal-oriented, practical, and focused on the here-and-now, while also recognising the role of past experiences in shaping current difficulties. By working with a trained online CBT therapist, you can reduce distress, gain clarity, and build long-lasting strategies to manage your mental health effectively.
What is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy?
EMDR is a psychological therapy for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories to bring these to an adaptive resolution. After successful treatment with EMDR, emotional distress is relieved, negative beliefs are reformulated, and anxiety is reduced.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing integrates elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximise treatment effects. The effectiveness of EMDR for PTSD has been demonstrated by research, and EMDR is recommended as an evidence-based procedure by the British Department of Health, among other professional bodies.
