Dr Andrew Healey

Consultant Clinical Psychologist

Pronouns - He/Him

I have several years of NHS experience as a Clinical Psychologist, including as a Consultant Psychologist and service lead. My specialist interest is helping people cope with long term health conditions and medically unexplained symptoms, sometimes called 'functional problems' e.g. IBS, Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder.

I also treat more common mental health difficulties. I follow best practice guidelines in treating a variety of emotional problems. I also keep up to date, attending regular training in therapeutic techniques and psychological topics and have ongoing supervision for all my clinical practice to support my work. I have experience working in various settings with a range of different clients and difficulties.

If you are seeking to improve your emotional well being, want to develop your life and relationships, I'm happy to have a discussion with you about how therapy could help you.

I like to spend time understanding your difficulties before selecting the most appropriate intervention. I am trained in several therapeutic approaches which are evidence based to help people struggling with the above difficulties. I am also used to working therapeutically with those who are neuro-divergent and may have diagnosis such as autism, ADHD or a mild learning disability.

Feedback about therapy with Andrew

Andrew took time to understand and listen to my difficulties, something I had not experienced with other professionals. He was compassionate and helped me understand why I felt and thought the way I did. He provided space to consider practical solutions and strategies to cope. We also reflected on how my trauma may have effected my outlook on life and how it may contribute to my difficulties. From the help I received I am more confident, happier and more able to cope when things don't turn out as I expect." Anonymous

What is a clinical Psychologist?

A Clinical Psychologist is a mental health professional who specialises in diagnosing, treating, and preventing a wide range of psychological issues and mental illnesses.

They have advanced training, usually including a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, which equips them to use various evidenced based therapeutic techniques and psychological assessments.

Unlike psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists typically do not prescribe medication; instead, they focus on using talk therapy and other non-medical interventions to help individuals understand and overcome their challenges, improve their mental well-being, and manage their mental health effectively.
